Through out time people from many different cultures from all around the world have been searching for the fountain of youth. One of the most famous search’s was conducted by a well known explorer named Ponce de Leon in the early 1500’s. The mythical legend spoke of miraculous waters, and it was said those that drank the water from this fountain would never age, they would maintain the beauty of their youth. The fountain of youth has never been found and so it still remains to be a legend.
Despite the fact that the fountain of youth was never discovered, the quest for a miraculous anti aging elixir that would help us maintain the beauty of youth has never been quenched. Today, there are many anti aging products and procedures that claim to reverse or prolong the aging process. These products and procedures consist of natural remedies, facial creams, cologne injections, and in extreme cases, plastic surgery.
However, the most natural of all the anti-aging substances can be found in the foods that we consume. These foods might very well be the natural solution to the anti aging process. These foods fall into two basic categories. These categories are fruits and vegetables.
Certain fruits have been shown promising results in the on going anti aging fight. These fruits include apples, strawberries, grapes and raspberries. Researchers have found that these particular fruits contain ellagic acid. Ellagic acid is a natural insect repellent that is found in certain fruits.
Through their are many benefits that come from consuming these fruits on a daily basis, the specific acid that these fruits contain has demonstrated the ability to hinder the growth of tumors within the body. This is accomplished because these acids attack the enzymes, within the body, that are utilized by cancer cells.
Some other fruits that contain valuable anti aging properties are cantaloupe, peaches and apricots. These fruits contain antioxidant that are known as lycopene. These antioxidants protect the body’s cells from damage that is caused by free radicals. These fruits have also demonstrated the ability to protect certain body organs, such as the heart, and bladder.
A fruit that is really great at slowing down the aging process, is the apple. Testing has been conducted that shows that apples stimulate the natural production of collagen. The production of collagen help the skin maintain its elasticity, which inturn minimizes wrinkling of the skin.
Certain vegetables, also aid the body in the anti aging process. Vegetables like carrots, spinach and sweet potatoes contain an abundance of antioxidants. Vegetables such as soybean, and alfalfa sprouts contain a compound known as genistein. Genistein inhibits the production of enzymes that stimulate and activate cancer genes.
